Difference between a Live SCORM and Heavy-weight SCORM

Difference between a Live SCORM and Heavy-weight SCORM

What is Live SCORM?

Live SCORM is the recommended option for maintaining your content in JollyDeck. With Live SCORM, you upload a small-sized package (less than 10kb) to your Learning Management System (LMS), but the actual content is hosted on JollyDeck’s servers. The key advantage of this approach is that any updates you make in the content editor are instantly visible to learners without requiring you to regenerate and re-upload the package.

What is Heavy-weight SCORM?

Heavy-weight SCORM is a standalone package that includes all the content within the file itself. While this provides a self-contained solution, it comes with a significant limitation: any updates made in the content editor will require you to regenerate the entire package and re-upload it to your LMS

When should I choose Live SCORM?

Live SCORM is ideal when:

  • You anticipate making updates to your content
  • You want to support audio narration of your courses
  • You want learners to always see the most current version of your content
  • You prefer no-maintenance process
  • You want a smaller file size for easier uploading

When might Heavy-weight SCORM be necessary?

Heavy-weight SCORM may be preferred when:

  • Your LMS requires all content to be self-contained
  • You have specific security requirements that necessitate hosting all content within your own systems
  • You need content to function in environments with limited internet connectivity
